YOURSAY ‘Why don’t you declare your assets to your real boss – the people?’

Khairy, don’t hide behind MACC’s skirt

MACC knows how rich we are, Khairy assures criticsyrsaykhairyyoursay-EnglishCQ Muar: Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin is implying that there’s no necessity for ministers to publicly declare their assets; conveniently stating the prime minister and Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) are aware of their wealth.

Come, come, Khairy, is that what Oxford University taught you on how to evade a complex situation and unravel a nasty knot? Of all people, why weigh in by naming the prime minister?

Surely you’re not that dumb for failing to realise PM Najib Razak himself has his plate full, and his extravagance reaching neck-level? If I were you, I would look for another source as an escape route.

Why not be transparent and follow the example set by Pandan MP Rafizi Ramli. After all, Pakatan Rakyat didn’t start it all; it was your Cheras Umno division chief, Syed Ali Alhabshee who initiated the assets declaration challenge.

We hope all leaders from both sides of the divide will step up and declare their assets and sources of wealth to prove to the rakyat that it’s a misconception that they are highly corrupted.

Boonpou: Stop beating around the bush, KJ. To state that MACC has records of all public officials is to also presuppose that the agency will take action if there is any suspicion of wrongdoings.

It is also presuppose there is no selective investigation and consequent prosecution on the part of MACC, or for that matter, the police, the attorney-general, and the judiciary.

Stop treating the rakyat as fools, will you?

Mushiro: “If they see we are living beyond our means, should that be so, action should be taken against us,” Khairy told a press conference.

Indeed, this is a cheap joke by KJ, but more than that, he is a coward. He does not come from Razak Hussein’s family so unlike Najib, KJ does not have substantial heritage wealth. So what is there for KJ to be scared?

WDA: If MACC is not investigating any of the cabinet members, then all of them must be clean and living within their means.

So, there should be nothing to fear for them to declare their assets to the people. The people are wondering why the ministers are showing such reluctance if they have nothing to hide.

Put a stop to the excuses and delaying tactics, and declare your assets already.

Aramis: The No 1 principle of parliamentary democracy is MPs, which include ministers, must be be accountable to the people first and then to the PM.

Selangor MB Azmin Ali and Rafizi understand this hence their call for the public declaration of assets.

Maplesyrup: KJ, is MACC independent enough? After all, after the denial that the PM has legacy assets from his dad, it is obvious that the PM’s lifestyle is well above his earnings as a politician and PM. Has MACC investigated that?

Fair and Open: They know how rich you are but are powerless to touch you. If you should fall out of power or at odds with your superior, you know what will happen. Your file is kept in a safe to be used if it is needed – this is the Umno way.

Pputeh: The public just need to ask themselves one question. Why are cabinet ministers so reluctant to declare their wealth to the public?

Have they got something to hide? They seem to be giving, or looking for, all kinds of excuses. Based on this, the public can make their own conclusion.

Sirach: Just one question, Khairy. Does MACC have the right to investigate someone who blatantly lives beyond his means in the absence of evidence of ill-gotten wealth? I think not.

I understand the Hong Kong’s Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC) does have such powers.

In the event, Khairy is just ventilating hot air by claiming that declaring assets to the MACC shows that all’s well. Let’s not kid ourselves.

Ib: You would think that some of the ministers are smart enough to figure out that MACC has lost its credibility a long time ago with two unexplained deaths in its own buildings.

Hang Tuah: So the MACC knows how rich you are. But so what? MACC has two sets of laws – one for BN and one for opposition. No need for me to explain further.

SSDhaliwal: MACC and the PM both have huge scandals surrounding them, so why talk like as though they are infallible.

Khairy, just because you went to Oxford doesn’t mean that everyone is an imbecile. Since the PM and MACC already know how much you’re worth, why don’t you declare your assets to your real boss – the people?

Odysseus: KJ, if you remember Teoh Beng Hock had died over a bribery suspicion case which involved his boss.

Can you tell us how many BN supporters have been hauled into MACC building for questioning pertaining to their boss’ wealth. Well, I am not asking how many of them have strangled themselves.
