Nevertheless, you have won three Olympics silver medals in a row. That’s a great achievement, the highest for any Malaysian. No apology is required here.

You can be disappointed in yourself for not winning the gold medal since it is something personal to every athlete, but don’t feel responsible to deliver the gold medal for Malaysian citizens.

The problem here is that so many insecure Malaysians are so desperate for a win that they impose their high expectations onto other people. When those people do not come up to expectations, they are deemed to have failed.

There is nothing to be ashamed of in being a silver medallist. More especially so after Chong Wei’s long and highly successful career in badminton.

Discerning Reader: Yes, there is no shame in not winning a gold medal for Malaysia. We have seen your efforts and the contests can go either way as all top class players are evenly matched.

What matters is that you have played your best from the opening rounds all the way into finals. It is no shame to lose and we are proud of you.

We are very proud of the Malaysians who are part of the Olympic team, irrespective of whether they won any medals or not, for their efforts to qualify to compete against the very best.

Quizzed by MACC, Bung Moktar says he is an innocent witness

In this case, there is no such thing as an innocent witness yet. A witness is a party to a lawsuit, on the side of the plaintiff or of the defendant. Obviously, you are a witness on the side of the defendant. In fact, it may be that you are the defendant.

If the former applies, you may be considered an accessory, and thus guilty by association and abetment, if the defendant(s) is/are found guilty.

If you are the defendant and are found guilty, then obviously you are a guilty witness. Innocence can only be determined when the trial is completed.

Mushiro: Bung Moktar has given a new meaning to the word “innocent”. Now we have “innocent witness”, “guilty witness”.

However, the seven hours of questioning by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) suggest that Bung is a suspect.
