YOURSAY | ‘He has done nothing significant for the Indian community…’

Same old Indian tune from ‘father’ Najib

Najib, father of the Indian community’s progress, a ridiculous claim

your say1dr subraMosquitobrain: It’s the ‘nambikai‘ (trust) speech again from Prime Minister Najib Razak, except this time he is the self-proclaimed “father of Indian community’s development”.

Year in, year out, for the last eight years, Najib has done nothing significant for the Indian community except sing the same old song, but each time with a different tune.

The non-bumiputeras, especially the Chinese community, have already gotten tired of this and have called it quits.

Dojusa: The title ‘father’ of anything other than your own children is given by the people after you’ve retired, or after your demise.

It is strange that a certain Bugis descendant can be the father of the Indian community’s development, and the title is given by himself.

The MIC should be the one to bestow that title to the deserving person. But because the MIC doesn’t see anyone fit to deserve the title, the PM has claimed the title for himself.

But who will take him seriously anyway after he was labelled a ”crook” by Newsweek magazine and repeated by CNN?

Anonymous: Some people are shameless in making claims. If a title is given to an individual by a group, then it is an honour but to claim the title for oneself, is an act of arrogance.

Alfanso: Small things matter. From segregating supermarket trolleys, dhobi shops, premises for rent, to syariah courts, all only for Muslims, or when an old Indian Malaysian has been without a blue IC while a Bangladeshi has one, this is one of the issues that have not been addressed.

Appum: If anything, he is the father of all the shame we Malaysians have to endure today. 1Malaysia is a great slogan but a promise that is empty and marked by non-action.

At the next MCA assembly, he will claim to be the father of the Chinese enterprises. Perhaps to make good his promise, out of his failure to be a clean finance minister, he can give the post to a Chinese politician.

Don’t rock the boat, Najib, or all of us will drown

Anonymous 1811351504586755: Malaysiakini columnist Mariam Mokhtar, you have hit the nail on the head again.

Najib talks about moderation internationally, but when it is convenient to him domestically, he behaves in the opposite way.

Najib allows Better Beer Festival ban, the Muar laundrette’s racial segregation and discriminative business practice, and never does he lift a finger, such as the recent Flora Damansara committee member’s self-declared authority to impose Taliban-like restrictions on the non-Muslim residents.

Najib threatened Chinese voters blatantly, but welcomed billions from China in an apparent rescue plan for 1MDB and the Malaysian economy, but sucks up to US President Donald Trump.

6th Generation Immigrant: These are the oxymoronic statements that all Chinese Malaysians are now bewildered with: Umno had provided the keys to Chinese entrepreneurial successes, and, they will also be the first to suffer if Umno ever loses.

We see no credit accorded the Chinese, no recognition of their efforts or ingenuity. In both statements, Umno is claiming credit for everything Chinese, the good and the bad.

Aries46: True Mariam, at least with former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamad, what you see is what you get. No pretense.

He rode in on the Malay dilemma, Malayanised all that he could lay his hands on and never looked back. When he felt threatened by his opponents, he invoked Operasi Lalang and ISA-ed everyone. When his presidency was at stake, he sacked the judges and started Umno Baru.

But not so with Najib. What you see and hear is not what you get. He blows hot and cold and to different audiences.

Like his modus operandi of playing mind games on the Chinese. Playing the global moderate while tacitly ignoring extremism in his backyard. Colluding with PAS that enables its radicalism in return for keeping him in power.

He swooped on the 1MDB probe and the massive cover-up at home despite overwhelming evidence of its global embezzlement and his role as MO1 (Malaysian Official 1).

He is known to take the moral high ground and chastise Malaysians on corruption, espousing the virtues of integrity. Can this nation bear him for another five years without going under?

Existential Turd: Mariam, thank you for highlighting the deeply worrying trend of Malay/Muslim supremacism in Malaysia.

During periods of segregation, the US had White-only restaurants, bus seats, hospitals, schools, etc. We are now entering such a segregated period. If no action is taken to arrest and revert such a trend, we can expect a more divided country.

Too bad we don’t have a Martin Luther King Jr.

Fair Play: If the boat is rocked, or worse still, there is a hole in the boat, 60 percent of the population (the majority community) would probably suffer the most. Such a simple logic, yet the PM couldn’t see it.

No doubt China, with its substantial investment in the country, would use its might to protect its ‘assets’ here.
