Rise and Root out Kleptocratic Leaders!

– Dr.  Xavier Jayakumar, Vice President, Parti KEADILAN RAKYAT and Selangor State Assembly Member, August 5, 2016.

xavierWhat does kleptocracy mean? Kleptocracy is a Greek word meaning “the rule of thieves.” Thieves have robbed our country; assets of the people to the tune of billions have gone missing. Voices who claim that these actions are ‘civil’ and ‘not criminal’ are just fooling themselves. But make no mistake it is based on the criminal conduct by those identified as the pencuri. The silence from the cabinet is very worrying as they not seen as protecting protect the nation. Instead the cabinet is more interested in safeguarding their own posts and positions, rather than risk challenging a kleptocratic leader. What does this speak of the moral standards of these individuals? Are they not proud of their qualifications from foreign universities, where they have been taught to think for themselves?  These are hypocrites who care more for their privileges rather than speak out for the truth and justice.

Malaysia is now the laughing stock of the world, we are the epicentre of one of the biggest financial fraudulent crimes the world has ever seen! Worse still, the rakyat is being threatened with action if we protest and counter threats from the ruling UMNO BN to counter our protests with violence. At present it looks like not one brave leader from BN is willing to put his neck out to save our country. It’s a shame. Look at where the money was spent. We are talking billions here: lavish parties, gaming and gambling debts, a movie production, purchase of a jet, hotels, cars, paintings, luxury apartments. All this is the rakyats’ hard earned money and also from government guaranteed savings such as EPF, KWAP and treasury bonds.

The AG who should be helping the DOJ is still saying that 1MDB has done no wrong. “What bull!” Rather he, being the guardian of the people, should be helping the investigation and bringing these thieves to court. But now it looks like our officials are protecting these thieves by keeping silent or distracting the Malaysian public with other minor issues. I quote the US Attorney General, “when kleptocrats rob their nations, treasuries, steal natural resources and embezzle development aid, they condemn their nation’s children to starvation and disease. In the face of this manifest injustice asset recovery is a global imperative.” So it really comes down to the rakyat. What is it you want to do or care to do? Keeping silent is not an option. Strength only comes when large numbers who stand up for truth and justice.

You might ask me how this impacts my daily life? Just imagine what 500 million to one billion ringgit can do for local communities by improving facilities and bring about change in their daily lives. For example, public transport, sports facilities and helping the hard core poor to be competitive. This is what a few million ringgit can do for communities in our country. Imagine if we had spent this money on our people, we would have definitely seen improvement in their standards of living.

Let us show the world that the people of Malaysia have had enough of lies from the official number one. He has to go, along with his spineless members of his cabinet.
